The Board Members at SERUCA are committed to ongoing support for its members and the states we serve. Our goal is to help urgent care centers in the Southeast USA by combining our knowledge, skill sets, key sources of information, and contacts to keep the medical community and our members up to date.
Selena Gurley | MSN, FNP-C, CRHCP
Selena is the VP of Accreditation at Fast Pace Health, a multi-state organization committed to expanding access to high-quality care in rural and underserved communities across more than 300 centers in eight states. At Fast Pace, she has played a pivotal role in its rapid growth, focusing on quality and patient safety. As the Chair of Advocacy with UCA, She is actively engaged in advocacy, policy development, best practice guidelines, and national conversations on the evolving role of urgent care. Selena is recognized as a collaborative leader capable of driving measurable improvements in patient outcomes. She sits as the Vice President on the Board of Directors for the Commission on Ambulatory and Urgent Care Quality (CAUCQ).

Lisa Bishop | DNP, MHA, FCUCM
Lisa is an accomplished healthcare executive, clinician, and educator with over 15 years of progressive leadership excellence in urgent care, primary care, and academic settings. As Vice President of Training and Clinical Development at Premier Health Consultants, she leads clinical transformation initiatives for more than 3,500 clinicians nationwide. In addition to her executive role, Lisa is a faculty member at William Carey University and has served as graduate nursing faculty at Laureate University and adjunct faculty at Franciscan University. She is Vice President of the Board of Directors for the College of Urgent Care Medicine and serves on multiple clinical advisory, fellowship, and peer review committees nationally.

Anneke Smith | MS
Anneke Smith is a seasoned editor, copywriter, and content manager specializing in medical education and healthcare with over 25 years of experience. She is a senior content editor at EB Medicine, where she contributes to producing high-quality medical publications for urgent care clinicians (Evidence-Based Urgent Care) and emergency department clinicians (Stroke and Trauma EXTRA!). Beyond her professional role, Anneke is an active leader in her community, having served as Communications Director and founding member of the Pope High School STEM Academy Foundation, as well as Vice President of the Pope High School PTSA. She also currently holds a volunteer position as Communications and Treasurer of her neighborhood homeowner’s association.

Shelley Janssen | MD, MBA
Dr. Janssen brings more than 25 years of experience in Family Medicine and Urgent Care. She currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer for Novant Health Urgent Care, a network of over 50 centers across South Carolina. Shelley has a proven record of improving outcomes, reducing costs, and driving growth. She is recognized for her strengths in data-driven decision making, strategic planning, and team leadership. Shelley is dedicated to supporting clinicians through education, advocacy, and the implementation of best practices.
TREASURER
Christopher Chao | MD, FCUCM
Christopher Chao, MD, is an urgent care physician with WakeMed Health and Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is the current president of the College of Urgent Care Medicine (CUCM) and is active in the Urgent Care Association. He contributes to Urgent Caring, A Peer-Reviewed Publication from the College of Urgent Care Medicine, and is an Urgent Care Association faculty member. He also serves on several committees at the Urgent Care Association. In addition to practicing medicine, he mentors students, fellows, and residents. He is committed to advancing Urgent Care as a specialty.

Tracey Davidoff | MD, FCUCM
Tracey Davidoff has practiced Urgent Care Medicine for more than 15 years. She is board-certified in internal medicine and has worked as an emergency physician at several sites in Rochester, NY. While in Rochester, she held faculty positions at the University of Rochester and the Rochester Institute of Technology Physician Assistant Program. Dr. Davidoff is currently on the Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine faculty. She serves on the Urgent Care Association Board of Directors, is Editor-in-Chief for Urgent Caring Quarterly and Evidence Based Urgent Care, and is the Chair of the Fellowship Committee for the College of Urgent Care Medicine. She has lectured extensively locally and nationally on Emergency and Urgent Care Medicine topics.

Cassandra Donnelly | DO
Dr. Donnelly is an emergency medicine physician and the President-Elect of the UCA. She is also the chair of the UCA’s Commission on DEI. She is the Regional Medical Director of Piedmont Urgent Care in Atlanta, GA. Since joining the company in 2013, she has served in various leadership roles. She is a Piedmont Healthcare Organization Clinical Governance Council member and leads the Urgent Care Task Force. She earned her medical degree from Rowan University, School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Donnelly completed an Emergency Medicine residency at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, where she served as Chief Resident. Upon graduation, she returned to Emory University and completed an EMS/Disaster Medicine fellowship.

Alfonso Espinel | MD
Dr. Espinel is the Founder/President and Medical Director of PrimeHealth Urgent Care, with 9 locations in Florida. He is a graduate of Universidad Catolica de Guayaquil Medical School in Ecuador. Dr. Espinel has experience in Rural Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Otolaryngology, and Family Medicine. He is actively engaged in advocacy and government relations. He is an Adjunct Professor for the Urgent Care rotation for the Manatee Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program.

Shaun Ginter | MBA, FACHE
Mr. Ginter is a seasoned leader in the healthcare services industry. As CEO, he has harnessed his operational expertise to propel CareSpot forward as a leading provider of on-demand, high-quality, affordable neighborhood healthcare. CareSpot operates 46 urgent care clinics in Florida, which are wholly owned and joint-ventured. In addition, he is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). Before joining CareSpot, Ginter was CEO of US Mobile Health Exams, CEO of CareWell Urgent Care, CEO of Blue Medical Supply, and COO of Solantic Walk-In Urgent Care.

Randy Glick | BSB/PM, MCP
Randy Glick serves as the Executive Director of the Southern Medical Association (SMA). SMA is a 501c3 regional multidisciplinary, inter-professional association founded by physicians in 1906 to continue education and leadership development. SMA is headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. His areas of expertise include nonprofit and for-profit administration and management, organizational leadership, development of continuing education/instructional design, information systems design and development, Google advertising and analytics, and project management.

Jessica Higginbotham | PharmD
Jessica is a highly accomplished and results-driven healthcare leader. She currently serves as Vice President of Clinical Services for American Family Care. In that role and her prior role as VP of Pharmacy Services, she has shown expertise in leading cross-functional teams, managing complex projects, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Jessica currently serves on the UCA Clinical Response Committee, the Quality Metrics Committee, and the Stewardship Committee.

Bonnie Peterson
Bonnie Peterson graduated with her BSN from Rockford University in Rockford, Illinois. She has worked in the Urgent Care field for over 30 years. As the Director of Clinical Operations with Physicians Immediate Care, she was instrumental in growing their footprint to 20 clinics. She has worked alongside the NERUCA board, assisting with their initial start-up. She has been a consultant assisting operators in starting over 100 Urgent Cares nationwide. Bonnie is very passionate about advancing urgent care as a specialty.

J. Bernie Short | MD, FAAFP, FCUCM
J. Bernie Short has advocated for Urgent Care since 1985 and has been exclusively practicing Urgent Care for over 20 years in Atlanta, GA. He opened the first urgent care in Atlanta in 1985. He is the Medical Director of Tanner Urgent Care and Occupational Medicine. Dr. Short has recently served as the Chair of the Board of Certification in Urgent Care Medicine (associated with the American Board of Physician Specialties) and as Medical Director for Piedmont Urgent Care in Atlanta. Dr. Short currently volunteers for the DeKalb County Board of Health Medical Reserve Corps, is also on the Editorial Board of the Evidence-Based Urgent Care Journal, and is a representative of the Delegates Council & Clinical Consortium of the UCA.
